Do you feel this way, too? Do you ever get frustrated with the empty, surface conversations? They are the discussion equivalent of reality TV (ick). How can we shift our relationships away from these into meaningful, interesting discourse?
Start by being the kind of person who has these conversations. Introduce these kinds of topics with others. Don't be surprised if it falls flat at first, especially if you and the other person have a long standing history of avoiding important or deep conversations.
This is a skill that takes practice so be patient with yourself and your loved ones. This might be uncharted territory. Realize that many aspects of our culture discourage deep knowing, true listening, and honest conversation so you're bucking the system a bit when you do this. Keep going! It's worth it!
